Adventure Park Travemuende A prime example of sustainability and adventure

The climbing forest Travemünde: a perfect blend of sustainability and innovative leisure design In just ten days, a climbing park featuring five courses and 41 platforms was created, offering visitors unforgettable experiences such as ziplines and two base jumps from heights of 17 and 11 metres. At the same time, the park was designed to harmonise with nature while appealing to a wide range of target groups.

Client’s vision: a climbing park in harmony with nature

The Vision of Moritz and Tillmann: A Nature-Friendly Adventure Park for All

Moritz and Tillmann had a clear vision: the Adventure Park should not only expand the region’s leisure offerings but also appeal to people of all ages and be built in harmony with nature.

Their goal was to provide climbing fun from May to October for everyone – from children and families to school groups, clubs, and companies. The diverse courses reflect this inclusivity, offering challenges for all skill levels while respecting the natural surroundings and adding value to the Travemünde location.

Special requirements included the use of regional materials and protecting the existing tree population. No trees were to be drilled into, no core tree areas were to be cut down, and no underbrush was to be disturbed.

Before our involvement, Moritz and Tillmann had already held numerous discussions with the municipality of Travemünde, as the land belonged to the community.

When faszinatour joined the project, most of the permits had already been secured, allowing us to focus on the creative implementation and sustainable construction of the park.

Our customised solution: innovation and sustainability at every step

A significant challenge in this project was the nearby grey heron colony. To avoid disturbing the birds, we worked closely with the Lower Nature Conservation Authority (UNB) to find a suitable solution. Platforms in the northern part of the park were constructed at a maximum height of 4 metres, minimising human activity at higher elevations. Additionally, the park's operations were scheduled to begin in late April, when the dense foliage naturally shields climbers from the birds' view.

Despite this challenge and adverse weather conditions – including wind, freezing temperatures, and rain – our team successfully completed the Adventure Park in an impressive ten days.

We placed great emphasis on environmentally friendly construction: all platforms and structures were designed to be removable, ensuring they do not impede natural tree growth. The underbrush remained largely untouched, thanks to clearly defined entry and exit points.

The completed park features five diverse courses with 41 platforms and seven spectacular ziplines, offering an unforgettable experience for visitors of all ages.

A standout attraction is the pair of base jumps, plunging from heights of 11 and 17 metres, providing a true adrenaline rush. Additionally, the park includes over 60 individual elements across various courses, allowing visitors to enjoy a full circuit around the park.

Park expansion 2023: the ninja course

In the following year, the Adventure Park was expanded with a challenging Ninja Course, featuring a standout highlight: a base jump from 17 metres. As always, protecting the natural environment was a top priority. The existing tree structure was carefully incorporated into the planning, and despite wind and rain, construction was completed in just five days.

A park for everyone: families, school groups, and businesses

The Adventure Park Travemünde is not just a destination for thrill-seeking individuals; it was specifically designed to cater to a wide audience. Families, day visitors, school groups, and businesses are among the key target groups who benefit from the park’s diverse offerings. The courses provide something for everyone – from simple climbs for children to challenging obstacles for sports enthusiasts.

Thanks to the thoughtful planning by the developers and close collaboration with the local community and conservation authorities, the park was created as a standout attraction for Travemünde and its visitors.
