The Highest Aqua Chimp in Europe Year of construction 2025
Set high in the Tyrolean Alps, at over 2,000 metres above sea level, a project is taking shape that is unique in Europe: the Aqua Chimp Hochötz. Installed directly in the reservoir of the Hochoetz ski area, this floating climbing park blends alpine scenery with physical challenge. An aqua-based climbing experience at this altitude has never existed before.

The implementation was both demanding and groundbreaking. Securing the required permits in high-alpine terrain called for precision and strong partners, including ILF Consulting Engineers. For the installation itself, heavy equipment had to be transported by helicopter – supported by the dedicated team of Bergbahnen Hochoetz. Step by step, a climbing park emerged that brings together water, movement and mountain nature in a truly distinctive way.
From the 2026 summer season onwards, the Aqua Chimp will officially open to the public. With its varied climbing elements, it offers an exciting addition for sporty visitors, families, hikers and guests exploring the region. The reservoir, previously more of a scenic backdrop in summer, will become a lively adventure space – and significantly strengthen the area’s year-round appeal.
For the Hochoetz ski and hiking region, this project is far more than a new attraction. It boosts summer tourism, makes smart use of existing infrastructure and creates added value for the mountain railway, local gastronomy and regional partners. A forward-looking initiative that shows how bold ideas can move mountains.
